3 Ways to Make Flurry Memories with the Family

3 Ways to Make Flurry Memories with the Family

29th Jan 2016

For kids there's no greater pleasure of winter weather than the announcement that “school is closed." For parents there’s a tossup on whether you have to go to work or not. Still, the responsibility of maintaining the household and making the kids stay healthy and entertained during a snow storm is unavoidable.

Adults have no choice but to clean their walkways and shovel out their cars, so why not make an event out of it? As parents we have to make sure our children are prepared for the weather so they can enjoy the outdoor snow activities. Here are some ideas to do just that.

1. Create a snow painting

Children enjoy coloring, so why not bring some art to the outdoor fun? Thoroughly clean out some spray bottles or hair product bottles and fill them with water and food coloring. Let the kids create art in the snow as they spray it all over and express themselves. Kids can create rainbows, flowers or even add color to snowmen. Snow painting can be an activity for the whole family to enjoy.

2. Making snow cones

If you want to take snow coloring to the next level, try eating it! A little simple syrup can turn your colored snow into a homemade treat. Making snow cones is fun yet simple. Within minutes you can have your own delicious ice treat!

Let the kids collect some freshly dropped snow. To ensure that the snow has not been compromised, make sure you supervise where the children are collecting the snow from. Once the kids have collected some snow in a pot or pan, just add it to ice cubes from your freezer. Once you mix the snow and ice, blend the two and add your food coloring. Then add some sugar and enjoy your homemade treat in a cup.

3. Build an igloo

Kids love when their parents can join in on the fun. Why not build an igloo big enough for everyone to crawl in? Creating an igloo in the back yard is the perfect way to take them by surprise!

Dress everyone in layers, and make sure their hands, feet and head are covered. When everyone is properly layered they can begin packing and stacking the snow. Once you have a secured a tent like igloo, place a sleeping bag down and sit inside. If you don't have a sleeping bag, be creative and throw down a blanket or couch cushions and pillows.

infant support pillow

Written by Alicia Overby - Founder & President of Baby Elephant Ears

Alicia is wife, mother, and creator of Baby Elephant Ears. Baby Elephant Ears was created out of parental concern, not financial desire. In 2005, when their second child was an infant, he cried all the time and just couldn't seem to get comfortable.

After seeking advice and suggestion from the medical community and alternative medicine, they eventually ended up in the chiropractors office where their baby was successfully treated for asubluxation, discomfort most likely the result of the strain during labor, which was now being exacerbated by the normal lack of infant neck strength. Only proper neck, head, and back alignment would offer him relief. When they couldn't find a product to give their baby the necessary support, Alicia took matters into her own hands and crafted her own infant support pillow. The first Baby Elephant Ears was born!
