6 Baby Items You Can Do Without

Baby Items You Can Do WithoutTypically, you’ll see and hear of countless baby products that are considered “must-haves.” What many people fail to tell you however, are the products that aren’t necessarily worth buying for your child. Whether they’re just a waste of money, or a safety hazard to your baby, here are some baby items you can do without:

1. Newborn Shoes

Buying shoes for your newborn child is a little bit of a waste of money, as they’ll only serve the purpose of looking good. Newborns won’t be able to walk for a while, so this is already reason enough to avoid buying them shoes. Also, your child’s feet are growing very fast at this young age, so they likely won’t fit for long.

2. Fancy Bedding Set

We know parents, and especially moms, love to find the most adorable baby products for their little ones. When it comes to baby bedding, the cutest and most lavish styles don’t necessarily mean they’re the best. The first concern should be the safety of it. After you ensure the safety of the bedding, then try to choose one that will wash easily and efficiently.

3. Expensive Clothes

There’s a difference between baby clothes that are quality and just plain expensive. Just because a certain brand of baby clothes are high-end and pricey doesn’t necessarily mean they’re the best option. There are tons of options when it comes to infant wear and going expensive will only end up being a waste when your child grows out of them quickly.

4. Warm Wipes

Sometimes parents like to go the extra mile for their child and get warm baby wipes to clean them up. While the baby getting cleaned may prefer this, they’re technically not a necessity. Also, the last thing you want is for your child to get used to this luxury and then when you need to do a diaper change out around town, the regular baby wipes make them freak out into a tantrum!

5. Bottle Warmer

While bottle warmers will ensure that your baby’s milk is the perfect temperature to consume, this is an unnecessary purchase to be spending money on. There are tons of other ways to warm up your baby bottle, with one method being as easy as placing it on a bowl of hot water until its warm enough.

6. Stuffed Animal Zoo

We’re certainly not suggesting that your child doesn’t deserve any stuffed animals at all, but there’s no need for a whole zoo of them. This is certainly a baby product you can do without when your baby is very young, as they don’t take much interest in them yet, and they can’t sleep in a crib with them due to SIDS risk.

Written by Alicia Overby - Founder & President of Baby Elephant Ears

Alicia is wife, mother, and creator of Baby Elephant Ears. Baby Elephant Ears was created out of parental concern, not financial desire. In 2005, when their second child was an infant, he cried all the time and just couldn't seem to get comfortable.

After seeking advice and suggestion from the medical community and alternative medicine, they eventually ended up in the chiropractors office where their baby was successfully treated for asubluxation, discomfort most likely the result of the strain during labor, which was now being exacerbated by the normal lack of infant neck strength. Only proper neck, head, and back alignment would offer him relief. When they couldn't find a product to give their baby the necessary support, Alicia took matters into her own hands and crafted her own infant support pillow. The first Baby Elephant Ears was born!
